If there was ever a club built to survive this challenge, it's Collingwood. We have a proud history of standing side by side, together through tough times…

Together Forever

Born from struggle
and hardship

Born from struggle and hardship

Collingwood was born in 1892 at Victoria Park, during times of great hardship for the downtrodden suburb. Our club brought people together and gave them a sense of hope and pride. A place to belong.

A source of light in
dark times

A source of light in dark times

During the Great Depression our club became a beacon of hope. On-field Jock McHale’s ‘Machine Team’ won four successive premierships between 1927-30, the only time it’s ever been done. Whilst off-field we supported the community by hiring the local unemployed to build a new grandstand, the Ryder Stand.

Together Forever

We have
weathered
storms...

We have weathered storms...

We struggled during the Second World War, being hit hard by enlistments, and in 1942 and 1943 recorded the worst finishes in our history to that point. Most expected membership numbers to drop but instead they doubled. Demonstrating that Collingwood‘s members were not only there for the easy times, but also for the hard.

Together Forever

...and droughts

...and droughts

In modern times the clubs greatest test has come in the form of droughts. With more VFL final losses than any other club it has not always been easy to wear the black and white. Our members proved during these times that they were no fair-weather supporters, sticking with us through it all.

Together Forever

And yet we march
forever forward.

And yet we march forever forward.

We have continued to march forward and push for change by expanding into women’s football, netball and wheelchair football. Our belief that sport can improve the lives of the people in its community is at the forefront of these decisions, ensuring that ours is a club for all.

Together Forever

We are defined not
by the easy days,
but by the hard

We are defined not by the easy days, but by the hard

We are a club defined by the challenges that we have overcome, by the people who have stood side by side together through it all. This current crisis will be remembered as the great test of our generation. We are determined to face it like the Magpie Army before us. Together, undaunted and unafraid.
